Who are You? I’m a mom.Payton Foeller
I am a mom.
Becoming a mom changes so many aspects of your life.
Some of the changes are the ones that you expect – not getting a good nights sleep, in the beginning, the overabundance of baby toys that will inevitably end up in your house, and all of the wonderful “firsts” that you get to experience with your new little bundle of joy!
But then there are the changes that you don’t necessarily expect that can have the biggest impact on who you are as a person.
Maybe you don’t have time to keep up with that hobby that you are passionate about or you loose touch with your friends for various reasons. Maybe it is your relationship with your significant other that get put on the back burner. All of these things begin to add up and you find yourself getting lost in the day-to-day aspects of caring for that new little baby in your life.
Now, to be honest, 99% of my “me time” is at 10:00 p.m., after the kids are in bed, lunches made and the house is quite, but this works for me. You need to figure out what works for you. Is it leaving the kids at home with your partner for an hour? Is it having 20 minutes to yourself to shower? Whatever it is, stick to it! You deserve to keep who YOU are, while still being a great mom!!
While at times it may feel like you are being a selfish mom or a bad mom, but let me assure you, you are actually being a GREAT mom! Everyone in your family benefits from you being a happy mom. It is so important for your kids to see you taking care of yourself so that they learn the importance of taking care of themselves, too. It is also so important for your marriage that you take care of yourself! It really is true what they say, “Happy wife, happy life!”
Even though the first thing that will always come to my mind when someone asks me “who are you?” is “I am a mom”, I wouldn’t change it for the world!
