Maybe You Could Use a Break from TechnologyPayton Foeller
Don’t get me wrong, I love tv. I’m a free spokes person for Netflix. Truly, they should pay me. I brag about it so much.
My tiny human watches her fair share as well. We’ve watched through both seasons of Little Einsteins… Twice. What can I say, she loves it. And I love having 15 minutes of not having to constantly entertain her. I’m not going to tell you to not use the tv as a baby sitter. A mamas gotta do what mamas gotta do.
I know older generations say that technology is terrible and we’re all rotting our brains. Yet our generation continues to develop new inventions and ‘technology’ that is leaps and bounds ahead of anything they had growing up. I almost guarantee any mom from any time period would have paid top dollar for a small box that would allow their children to zone out and shut up for 20 minutes at a time here and there. You won’t convince me otherwise.
When it comes to you and your families habits maybe it is time to consider taking a break from technology. How do you abuse technology? Does how you use it benefit you or does it cross over the line into the harmful realm. I bet you there’s something that is or is super close to being harmful. Let’s take a second to ponder…….
*Stare up at the ceiling like you’re thinking really hard*
Ok. Good job. I can tell you thought long and hard about your technology habits. Now that you have, how are you going to fix them?
Some options to consider:
1. Pick one kind of technology to cut out all together (or for an extended period of time).
Ex. No more gaming
2. Pick several things to cut for a certain amount of hours per day.
Ex. No phones, tv, games, ect, from 5-8pm or 6pm-morning.
Any variation of cuts and time restraints will be better than where you are now, I’m sure. Like last week, don’t take it easy on yourself but make your goals attainable. This doesn’t have to be a lifestyle change either. Just do an experiment and see what happens! You may love it. Check back Thursday for ‘Ways to Savor Life’ while you live without technology. You can do it! I have faith in you!
How are you going to take a break this week?
