How to Find a Balance in Gifting to Your ChildrenPayton Foeller
I want her to get everything she wants, but I can’t give it to her. It’s more important that I let her learn so she can get it herself.
What does this have to do with gifting?
Although, strangely, I’ve been singing jingle bells since the April 7th, the birth of my baby girl. Don’t ask me why but it’s literally the only tune I could come up with after she was born and kept us up screaming our first night together in the hospital. [Update. It was her favorite song on her second Christmas and she’s too stinking cute singing it!]
Anyway, where was I going with this? …Spoiling my kid… Christmas spirit… oh right. Coming upon my baby girls first Christmas I’m trying to find the right balance of gifting, giving, getting, etc. I want her to have it all but that’s probably not the right approach in the long run; for her character or our budget.
I’ve seen people going around facebook and Pinterest that talks about getting only 4 gifts; something they want, something they need, something to wear, and something to read.
I think we’re going to go with that approach for any gifting occasion! My baby will only be 8 months or so… but I want to start early! I know we may change our approach but I love tradition so I want to start something now that we can continue until we are empty-nesters… Oh, my. That’s crazy to think about.
