5 Perks of Southern LifePayton Foeller
The South is known for many things. And usually, we get a bad rap. But there are a few things that I just couldn’t live without; therefore I’ll never move north… knock on wood. I may visit from time to time but it only reminds me what I love about being southern.
We have barbecue, yummy melt in your mouth barbecue that is to die for; and it’s everywhere. The weather is nearly perfect and the style; well I could take or leave that. But still, southern life is pretty great, there’s no denying that. But there are a few things that make it vastly more awesome than living up north…
3. Access to Nature – We have national forests within walking distance (not all southern towns, but mine is pretty great). We have access to hiking and fishing, rock climbing, caving, kayaking, and more. Pick an outdoor activity and we have it. I really wish I took more advantage of all the outdoors things we have around, but if I did I might sneeze my head off. I’m working on it though; yay for allergy shots! Just about an hour ago we had a conversation about the difference between straw and hay. If you don’t live in the south you may not even know of either one! We have the chance to learn about so many things hands on that just aren’t available in other parts of the county.
And Hello! They don’t call it Southern Fried Chicken for no reason. It’s because we make it the best. Usually, a southern grandma can make it even better than that. Maybe I should include fried chicken on my meal plan… I haven’t quite mastered that dish yet, have any awesome recipes?5. Southern Gentleman – The phrase is common for a reason. There are good Godly men in all parts of the country I’m sure but the south is home to good Godly boot wearing, door opening, yes ma’am-ing, bible reading, hardworking southern gentlemen. Sure skinny jeans are trendy and your boyfriend’s sunglasses are just the coolest; but my husbands’ hard working hands provide for me and my family. I’m willing to go out on a limb and say that in the south that value is just a bit more common than in other places.
